“ This spot has been on my list for a while. Unfortunately I didn't go out of my way to eat here until I found out it was closing this week. At the time of me posting this review, you have 2.5 days to make it to the amazing spot. My guy and I went for Tuesday (extended) Happy Hour/Taco Tuesday and brought our fur child, so we ate outside on the patio area. Patio area is under shade and pretty lively. Our sever and host were amazing and had such positive attitudes even though this location is closing. We ordered two Playa Margaritas, seven bucks each, during happy hour. And boy they were strong! Such a good deal. It was also Taco Tuesday where tacos are four bucks each. I had a carne asada and he had short rib. We were both pleased. For our mains, we split a Hatch Burger off their happy hour menu and Hatch Spaghetti with shrimp. Both were amazingly flavorful and worth every penny. If you see this in time, make it a point to go before Friday May 31st... and luckily they have sister restaurants in North Long Beach and Cerritos. ”
“ We walked in just as they were closing, I forget they close early for a restaurant. But they were very accommodating and happy to seat & service us! I ordered their pork belly tacos and my friend ordered the birria tacos. Both are vastly different from each other but both equally as good, depends on what you're in the mood for. I absolutely loved the pork belly tacos! They give you three but I was only able to eat two of them and gave the other one to my friend. The pork belly was not chewy, and it was very flavorful. Just overall an excellent choice! Now, the birria tacos are fried with the birria beef and served with a side of birria dipping broth. OMG! Outstanding! Hands-down, I think that is the meal to order. I would love to have tried their hatch chili spaghetti however, apparently it's pretty spicy and unfortunately I can't do spicy. But that sounded amazing. Definitely will be eating here in the future, we have to plan a little bit better to come earlier they close at seven! ”
“ This place is Tucked inside a shopping plaza in Long Beach. You won't find it unless it's brought up to you or you search on Yelp for good eats. I came here with my sister in law over the weekend and wooooww. Service? 10. Calamari? 100! We also enjoyed the short rib quesadilla, fish tacos and potato taquitos. The food, the service was very good, I love the attentiveness of the servers and the home made tortillas were chefs kiss. ”
“ As someone who has lived in Mexico and has strong ties to its vibrant culinary culture, Playa Amor has become a cherished haven. Playa Amor serves up truly authentic Mexican cuisine that never fails to transport me back to the streets of Mexico. The flavors are rich, the ingredients are fresh, and each bite is a celebration of the country's culinary heritage. The bartenders and servers at Playa Amor consistently provide warm and welcoming service. Their genuine friendliness adds an extra layer of enjoyment to every visit. While I miss the option of having Playa Amor as a lunch spot during the week, it has seamlessly transitioned into our go-to for evening delights. The Playa Margaritas are a must-try, and the tacos never disappoint. Playa Amor has earned its place as our favorite spot for Mexican cuisine. The combination of mouthwatering dishes, friendly service, and budget-friendly prices makes it a gem that deserves to be celebrated. I wholeheartedly recommend Playa Amor to fellow food enthusiasts and those in search of an authentic Mexican dining experience. ”
“ The food was incredible and so were the drinks. We ordered guacamole as an appetizer, which could honestly feed a family of 4 because it was a lot of guac! Ambiance is lovely, the decor is great and I have been here before when they have musicians and it's fantastic. I was disappointed this time around because we had to wait a long time to be served, however, the waiter explained they had 2 callouts and were doing the best they can. I can't fault them for doing their best. Overall, a lovely experience and I recommend the spaghetti combination to everyone! It's even better the next day. ”
“ It had been a while since we were here but had to come back cause we missed their food. We were here for a Sunday bday Lunch (09/17/23 ; 2pm) with my husband. Greeted and seated when we arrived. It was also very empty, maybe 2-3 tables occupied and like 2 ppl at the bar. I love the area because it's quiet and breezy. Good on a sunny day. We had: *Chips, Salsa, and Guacamole *Taco Plate that comes w/3 Tacos, rice and beans. Protein choices were, Grilled Shrimp, Pollo al Pastor, short rib. Our favorite was the grilled shrimp! *Playa Amor Hatch Chile Spaghetti w/Steak! Delicious, our favorite of the lunch. *Ranchero Flay Iron Steak, a good choice as well. Drinks were good! Had a nice buzz going with 2/3 of them. Enjoyed shopping at Trader Joe's afterwards (next door, lol). *Coupe de Villa for me *El Chapo and Paloma for my husband Servers were attentive, alternating with each other. I came to this place on a recommendation from a friend a couple years ago and have been coming since. Every visit we have had has been tasty and exceptional customer service. We always recommend friends to go here. So if your thinking of checking it out, go! Food is good and a big portion. They have Happy Hours. They are also close to Tesla charging stations so while you wait you can go have a nice snack/appetizer and drink if you are into that. Restroom is clean. Unisex. Lots of parking, free. ”
“ Great food. Great service. First time here and I can't wait to go back. The octopus appetizer is fantastic. Loved everything we ordered. The Margarita could have been a tad stronger. This is a hidden gem tucked in the middle of the same center as Trader Joe's. Crowds are flocking to the new 2nd & PCH center right across the street but they're missing out the great food here. No crowds and plenty of free parking. Nice looking bar inside but we sat in the patio area. ”
“ Let me start by saying, I have been to their sister restaurant in Cerritos and it did not disappoint. So this place had some huge expectations, and it passed with flying colors It has a pretty convenient location with tons of free parking and other places (trader joes and other establishments) it is a little tucked away though When we first walked up we were immediately sat, we picked to sit inside since it was a windy day Our waitress immediately came over and was very knowledgeable and talkative. Asked if it was our first time and if we had been to their other restaurant (she said she used to be a waitress over at the other location) I wish I had gotten her name, because she was great. She even recommended what to order at the other restaurant of theirs next time we go. We started off with chips and salsa. Which, you do have to pay for. I believe it was 2 dollars and 1 dollar for a refill. Usually I think places that charge for chips or bread at the table are ridiculous. But they give you a pretty large portion and you won't regret it. The chips were extremely good and perfectly salted. The salsa tasted fresh, not too hot, not too wimpy lol. Just right. I was skeptical about their hatch Chile spaghetti. Sounds so unappetizing, but it was amazing. I got it plain with no meat or seafood added. It had an amazing roasted garlic and hatch Chile sauce which did have a little spicy kick to it We also ordered the short rib burrito wet style with only cheese, short rib and rice. Chose it with no beans or other garnish on top. Let me tell you, I have never tasted such a difference In the quality of tortillas before. But the texture and freshness blew me away My glass of water was hidden behind a bunch of food. Yet somehow the man refilling the glasses saw mine was empty and he immediately turned around and grabbed me another drink without me having to ask. He was seriously so attentive and nice. I saw him walking around checking on everybody Now here's where it gets good. We were beyond stuffed, but our waitress asked if we wanted dessert. Of course once we found out they had horchata ice cream and Churros we had to get both. The churros were fresh and warm and came with a dipping sauce and the ice cream was the chefs kiss. Everyone here was so knowledgeable and friendly, they have a pretty good selection on their menu and I've heard great things about their happy hour. We also had another girl that was checking on us, so the people here were so attentive. I did not have to ask for anything, it was just all immediately brought out / drinks refilled immediately. I am a huge stickler for if my glass is empty I will 100000 percent come here again ”
“ This is still a hidden gem of a place! We came and ordered all our favorites; Shrimp Ceviche, Potato Taquitos, Mexican Street Corn (off the cobb ONLY), New Mexico Green Hatch Spaghetti X2, Charred Brussel Sprouts, Mole Tot Poutine, salsa and guacamole! Very exciting that day. Have reinstated their happy hour Monday through Fridays until 5 o'clock! Staff did their best, when they got really busy at one time and doing their best to seat Serve everyone! Playa just feels like a beautiful summer evening with friends and lots of food! ”
“ I've been here a handful of times for happy hour, but came for dinner this past weekend and was very impressed. I forgot how good this place is! We were a larger party so we got seated in their indoor/outdoor area that had heaters in case we were cold. The space doesn't feel very big, but there's a good amount of tables around and a bar in the middle. We had a reservation on a Saturday night and got seated right away. Waters for everyone were brought out right away and they took our drink order. All of the cocktails on the menu are either tequila or mezcal, but they do have a full bar in case you want another type of alcohol. 3 of us ordered a vodka Paloma, but they came with tequila in them. We let the waiter know and they brought us new ones with vodka. The taste of the vodka Paloma was meh, I say just stick to tequila cocktails here. We were also greeted with chips and salsa - so delicious and addicting! Then we also ordered appetizers for the table, which were all mostly amazing. Definitely recommend the octopus, elote, calamari, mole tots, and brussel sprouts. The only thing we ordered and were not much of a fan was the ceviche. As for the food, the portions were huge and we were all pretty full from the apps so we definitely ordered too much food. We ordered the slow-braised carnitas and they were delicious!!! So soft and tender, in a yummy green sauce with chicharron on top, broccolini, rice and beans, and tortillas. We only ate about a half or less and took the rest home. The burritos are humongous! My friend sitting next to me ordered a wet asada burrito and we couldn't believe how big it was. No complaints though! The hatch Chile spaghetti was very good and the ribs were pretty tasty. I want to come back and try the enchiladas and birria short rib. Despite how full we were, we tried their desserts as well. The desserts were okay, we tried the churros, horchata ice cream, and bread pudding. I could've done without dessert. Overall, a great experience and successful birthday dinner for our friend, thanks Playa Amor! ”
